Thank goodness the funeral is finally over, and I didn't blame Roy for taking off. He needs some time to himself without being smothered by Fizz, Carla and Anna. I forget where Sylvia is supposed to be - and why.

I'm annoyed by commentators who talk about Patrick Chan as if he lost. He won a Silver Medal and deserves to be proud of it. It was the same with Kurt Browning who felt so bad for not winning gold - yet we knew he was the best in the world - or at least I did. I much prefer the World's when it comes to figure skating; at least I can tell when and what time it comes on without sitting through so much yakking and other boring sports.

I imagine most of you have seen the news but, just in case you haven't, William Roache has been completely cleared of all the sex charges and ITV has stated it will be talking to him about going back to work. This from the International Express.

Thanks so much Hey Jude and Vera! I'm glad it didn't come across that way. It's not at all what I meant. LOL Here we go again huh?
I haven't seen the funeral episode yet, but I do feel badly for Roy that he's so angry yet it's completely understandable. He was never on board with Hayley's plan to take her life, he fought against it tooth and nail and now with his grief and his regrets it's manifesting itself in anger at himself and at Hayley. I have a feeling that Hayley would understand how he feels if she knew because she knew Roy so well and she was well aware of how he felt about her plan, even thought he didn't try to stop her. People can do strange things when consumed by grief, and behave out of character. It is too bad that he couldn't keep it in check publicly.(from what I'm reading here!)

Monique, I agree completely with your observations regarding last night's eppie. I feel in my humble opinion that the entire episode should have been the funeral. We could have done without Sophie in that ridiculous hat chasing after who is obviously going to be her newest girlfriend! We all can predict that she'll soon be moving her into Sally's house. We also didn't need Michelle and Steve arguing over catering - there is a bistro across the street!

I know that it's realistic that Roy would experience anger as part of his grieving, especially since Hayley took her own life. He probably feels that she willingly abandoned him and removed herself from him. But I didn't expect the anger to be so intense that he would intend to boycott the funeral or feel anger at her during the ceremony and feel the need to interrupt the kind words being said about her. How could he feel such anger towards his soul mate when he's looking at her coffin knowing that she's in there? I would think feelings of missing her intensely would take over at that point. The same way I don't know how he could feel such anger while looking at her picture. Maybe it's me and maybe it is realistic. After all I haven't been through that situation with a loved one bowing out prematurely. I know that for me, I just can't feel anger at a person during their funeral even if I loathed the person when they were alive, as has happened once. I also find it sad that the last commemoration of their relationship is marred by feelings of anger and conflict when the whole point of their special relationship was that it was free of major conflict.

As for Sophie, for once she has found someone who is at rock bottom and she might play a role in building her up. With her previous girlfriends, all she did was drag them down and not care about how she was affecting their future. She tried to prevent Sian from studying and getting ahead in life and Jenna lost a career in her profession over her.

I think Roy's anger was understandable. He had been through a huge emotional turmoil and was grieving his loss the only way he knew how. Many years ago when my father died unexpectedly in a car accident I experienced unexpected anger. I didn't interrupt the funeral but I had to cope with anger because I felt that he had left us. I even had to cope with the anger I felt towards the sister sho had to notify the rest of the family that we had lost our dad. It was foolish as he never chose to leave and could not have prevented nor foreseen the accident but emotions can be very raw and unexpected. Of course I reaslized that my anger towards my sister was uncalled for and never told her about it. Roy had no idea how to cope with this experience.

Gail: I thought your post was spot-on, except that I didn't like Maddie right from the start. You are right: sometimes they introduce characters that we absolutely abhore, and months later they've changed and we end up liking them in the end. Sophie might just be able to bring her around. I am going to give Maddie a second chance here - the girl has a sick Mother and her brother has been taken out of their home. Yes, stealing the purse and trying to be paid for giving the watch back was totally wrong, but I think it's possible deep down Maddie is a good person, she was probably just desparate at the time and she def knew better. Also I think you are right about Roy - he's going to go through various different emotions now that Hailey's gone, and I liked your point that even if he had been able to talk Hailey out of it, she would have suffered enormous pain. Having known someone who died of the same thing, I know she would have been in unbearable pain. I hope Roy finds some closure soon though, I don't want to see him go through months and months of anger and anguish and/or depression.

I don't think everything has to be completely realistic when it's so sad and depressing. We have enough of that in real life. The actors did a fine job of the cancer story line but IMO they milked it too much. I know others love these sad story lines but people who have lived through similar things would like some relief from all the misery. People use humour to deal with life and we need to see a bit more of that. Steve and Lloyd made a video but I wish it had been part of the regular show so everyone could see it. I'd also like to see Steve and Michelle split up for good and move on as I don't they they were ever really suited. I'd also like to see more of Eileen and her household for a change, Dierdre and Liz, too etc.

To me Roy is not acting out of character. He has always been high principled and determined to do what is right. Remember when Tony confessed to him in the hospital when he thought he was having a heart attack which turned out to be a panic attack. Roy could not let it go even when Tony tried to drown him. Also there was the incident of the bats. I blame Fiz, she knows how honest Roy is and how upset over how Hailey died, she should have toned down 'Hailey the selfless saint' line. Maybe Roy could have got through the service then. Loved the flower printed coffin and that women (plus Sean) from the factory were the pallbearers.

I'm so impressed by you people who have learned other languages. Very inspiring and thanks for sharing!
After initially liking Maddie, I have to admit also that she's lost her appeal for me! I know that's the character and the impression she is supposed to create and no doubt, because they're trying to make us dislike her so much, we will eventually love her as most of us did Becky and Fiz at first but loved them eventually.
It's absolutely true that cancer killed Hayley but she decided when. She took control of that aspect of her illness and she did it on her own with no help from anyone. Big difference between *assisted* and *supported*. Roy did nothing other than be by her side after initially trying to talk her out of it, but he knew it was futile. He said that he could have had her with him for weeks but that's the selfish and very human side of him. He's not thinking about how that would have meant possibly weeks of more suffering for Hayley. She also may have become confused about Harold/Hayley, and that was her greatest fear. It's understandable that now that she's gone and he misses her so much, he's second guessing his actions and wishes that he had stopped her. He's going through the anger phase of his grief. I think it's all very realistic.

I really dislike Maddie but I suppose stupid Sophie is going to make her her new squeeze and we will have to suffer through it. Amazing how her minimal experience with the homeless enables her to write some kind of newsletter.

I believe there are five stages of grief so we can expect different reactions from Roy - right now it is anger with the loved one.
I didn't think Hayley's death was drawn out - she was dying of cancer and it usually takes a few weeks even with the relatively sudden deaths. It's not like dropping dead from a heart attack or an aneurism. She was part of the scene for so long it would have been dreadful to have tidied her away in a few days.

What is Tracy's motive for playing the "loving Mom" card and how long can it last?

Sheila: Happy Valentine's Day to you too - and thanks for your efforts!

People don't always act in character when they are grieving so it could make sense for Roy to be angry. He probably feels deserted. As for Alma, maybe it happened too fast to be realistic but sometimes things need to be speeded up in fiction. If they drag on too long, people stop watching and life should go on with Corrie.

OFF TOPIC There is a restaurant in Calgary our family always liked to go to for Asian cuisine, but I always get the name of the place wrong ( something like Yan Kan ). We always had to have their lemon chicken as one of the dishes and my nephew liked one of the noodle dishes. Here in Edmonton I even like the Wok Box. The thing is some places have it too salty, some too greasy, some without enough vegetables for me, so it all depends on your taste as to which place does it the way you like the food. I liked Smiley's there ( not sure it's there anymore). ON TOPIC I think they go from one scene to another so that they don't have to make what happens in real time sometimes and they can leave things out for us if you know what I mean. wink

Monique, thanks for expressing your feelings so well regarding Hayley's funeral. You made some good points

Like Haili, I think the whole storyline has been over exploited. And, in my opinion, Roy's been acting out of character in objecting to Hayley opting to choose when she would die. As someone on here, I think it was Leah, said: The cancer killed Hayley; she just decided when it would be.

I think the Roy they've drawn so well over the last few years would have respected that decision, knowing it would spare Hayley so much physical and emotional pain. He understood her so well and I think he would have understood that final request and honoured it. Then again, grief does do strange things to people and storylines do need conflict.

Terry, I recognized that poem from Alma's funeral but didn't make the connection. Thanks for pointing it out.

After months of a storyline that was written with the highest quality, I was disappointed in tonight's episode. Usually when it's the funeral of a major beloved character they don't keep cutting to irrelevant silly stories. They kept doing that tonight. Mixing Hayley's funeral with the silliness of Maddie kissing Sophie was indeed inappropriate. Then there was the whole thing with Steve and Michelle arguing over the mix up with the food. Sophie even missed the funeral after promising her mom she would be there because she was obsessed with Maddie. Hayley's send off deserved more respect than that. It felt as if the writers who had so brilliantly written the story so far were on vacation because they needed a break and the lesser qualified writers took over.

Leah, I agree with you I can't stand Maddie either and unfortunately she will be around for a while with a story involving Sophie.

I also wondered why Deirdre wasn't at the funeral. That was out of character because she usually cries when someone dies in the community. She cried a lot at Vera's funeral and she had cried a lot back when everyone thought Vera had died while donating a kidney.

Haili, maybe Alma's death wasn't dragged out as long but the actress who played Alma said she was upset with the storyline because she said the quick demise of her character was unrealistic. With Hayley's story they wanted to make it realistic.

I understand that Roy is going through difficult conflicting emotions, but I am not comfortable with him feeling so angry at Hayley to the point that he didn't want to attend the funeral and now wants to interrupt Fiz's eulogy because "people need to know the truth", meaning Hayley wasn't such a selfless person. Those two shared the deepest love story ever and the writers had to kill Hayley off because they could not imagine the two of them falling out and splitting up. But now Roy is in a way divorcing himself from her. After being such close soul mates for so long, it's a shame that he has to feel such negative feelings about her in his last chance to bid her a final farewell. Even if he comes around in the next 15 minutes, Hayley's funeral will always be tainted with those feelings of extreme anger he felt for her during the ceremony.

Hey Jude, my friend who moved back to her native China lived in Vancouver for a while and she said it had the best sushi she ever tasted outside of Asia.

Lisa, when you go to dim sum, which is served in the morning and afternoon, the traditional way they serve it is that waitresses push carts on wheels and on those carts there are small dishes of dumplings, meats and other assorted goodies. The patrons select what they want to eat from the carts and the waitress adds the item to their bill. Each dish is very small, with 2 to 4 small dumplings or similar size servings, so that one can sample a wide variety of dishes. The more people at the table the more dishes you can sample. The dishes are shared among the diners at the table. At the restaurant at the Vancouver airport, there were no waitresses pushing carts so we ordered from a regular paper menu.

Lise, the dish I forgot to order and absolutely had to try in Vancouver was pork dumplings with dry black Chinese mushrooms on top. I love them here but those were divine. Then I realized I forgot to order chicken feet and again told the waiter we had to have them but we were in a hurry because we had a plane to catch. He said no problem but my husband was stressed. Then I remembered a couple of other dishes I forgot to order and did the same thing. After that we had to run all the way to the other end of the airport where we had to board our flight and he was p****d off at me! But come on, how often were we going to get the chance to have dim sum in Vancouver? We had plenty of time to wait for the flight.
