Lise, re Canada Reads, I've heard bits through the week and watched today to see which book would win.
Is it me, or did it used to last much longer? Or at least longer than it did this year?

I have four tattoos - got 2 of them around age 30 and 2 around age 40 - you would never see them though. Small and not on display - I got them for me, not for a public statement. the last two are my own artwork, one has a very spiritual meaning.

But they feel less special now that everybody has tattoos - those poor young girls with the very black ones in visible places - tattoos do not age well, and in my experience neither does human skin - like the old joke about getting a rose tattoo on your breast, and by middle age it is a long-stemmed rose!

My pet peeve are people I know that spend thousands on tattoos but don't pay their bills or save any money.

My dad had a forearm tattoo of a heart with a banner that said "Mother" (really!!! he said it was something about the end of the war (got drunk, got tattoos?), and he didn't like it, but I loved it.)

I personally don't find Peter attractive, but I can see why some do. I think he is a great actor playing a slimy guy!

Mark I bet you'd like a tattoo on Tina!!!! Maybe a tramp stamp?

I'm glad Roy is back.
HA! I knew Roy would be in some sort of museum.
And only my Pal Pearl believed me.
I can't blame him for not wanting to go back home.
He needs to sell up and move.

I think Denis is being abused and
so is Tyronne with Fizz yelling at him at every occasion.

I don't like tatoos either.

When Tina is feeling content and happy; her earrings get smaller.

Peter has the same upper lip as Sylvester Stallone and the one handed killer on Prison Break.

ITV have uploaded a 37 second video on [www.youtube.com]. In speeded-up time, the video shows the construction of the new Coronation Street exterior set. I wish I could watch it in slow-mo, but it's interesting nonetheless. smile

I normally don't care about tats, but I know someone in the family who has them all over her arms from shoulders to wrists, and they are creepy - bugs, frogs and plants. In the summer she wears sleeveless tops and dresses and am sure she gets some looks, but I've gotten quite used to them.

Monique, I love your Monty Python Life of Brian story! That's so funny and probably true of so many scenarios in modern day society.

I'm all for people expressing themselves in ways that suit them, so long as it doesn't extend into other people's boundaries. If tattoos are one way they like to do it, all the power to them. It's not something I'd judge anyone on, just that the tattoo-less look is more my preference. Only one of my former boyfriends had tattoos - on his arms, which he'd gotten years ago and were covered up in winter when I first met him. In the summer when he wore t-shirts he'd sometimes get compliments on his tattoos from strangers, and my inner reaction was always 'Really?' We're all so different but I guess that's what keeps things interesting.

Gail, I like what you said about Peter probably having gotten drunk one day while in the navy, and letting the tattoo artist go crazy. It's a great vivid picture and I can so see it!

Thanks to everyone for the Corrie time change info.

Way to go Amy!! Loved how she tricked her parents into dressing up for their museum tour. She was able to manipulate both into agreeing to make it a family outing so why not add an extra angle. She had years of watching master manipulaters in her mother and great grandmother and has learned the art well. Agree that Wednesday episode had a goodly dose of much needed humor to combat Fiz's moaning and other downer stories.

Re the time change for tonights Corrie, in BC it is listed at 8:30 pm but that is from a paper listing which could have been printed a month ago so may not be totally reliable. Will have to keep checking.

I'm really liking Tracy, Steve, Amy, Dierdre, Lloyd, Eileen these days. Even Todd and Sean are a change of pace after all the heavy stuff with Roy and Hailey. I could do without the Windasses and Owen's bunch but am glad to see Roy back in the cafe. I think the writers could have done more with Dennis but if he has to go, Gloria should go with him and I wouldn't miss Stella either. Steve is a lot more fun with anyone else than Michelle - even Tracy.

Who would have thought that Tracy would be the one who would inadvertently say something to make Roy snap out of it and return home!

Gail, I agree with you about Tracy. Sometimes the writers give her too many one-dimensional predictable lines, but many times her comments and comebacks are quite witty and crack me up.

I loved yesterday's episode. The scenes with Amy, Steve and Tracy were hilarious and refreshing. The scene at the end when Roy returns to his flat and sees Hayley's red anorak then looks at the photos and the train set and note she left him were deeply moving the way the whole Roy and Hayley story has been. The show had a wonderful combination of humour and moving moments. That's why we can't give up on Corrie even during the low points, because we know it will eventually return to fine quality.

I don't like tattoos either. It's ironic that people who want to boldly proclaim their individuality end up all doing the same thing. Reminds me of Monty Python's Life of Brian when the main character tells the crowd "You are all different". The crowd says in unison "Yes, we are all different". Then a lone voice says "I'm not". Last summer at the pool at my gym I saw girls in bikinis with their entire chest and arms tattooed with what looked like entire sceneries. I was surprised at the first one I saw, then I noticed a whole bunch of them had it.

Liza, I don't understand tattoos either and think they're disfiguring if they're covering entire arms, legs, backs etc. If they're small and in less obvious places on the body like a small one on a shoulder or hip, or back they can look quite nice. I think those who embrace them see it as an expression of their individuality which is ironic these days when so many people have them! As you said though, to each their own and most people who get them probably do it for their own personal reasons and they think they're beautiful so that's really all that matters. But they have to be open to the fact that not everyone likes them and not take offense. Peter Barlow was in the (merchant?) navy and so it suits his character to have those tats. He probably got roaring drunk one night and let the artist go to town on him! LOL I expect they actually belong to Chris Gascoyne.

Haili, I'm with you when it comes to tattoos on men. Not a turn on at all. I wonder if Peter's tattoos are real or just for the character. Considering how popular tattoos are and how everyone and their grandfather has them these days, I imagine they're real. They suit the character though. I thought it was funny when Cher had hers removed when everyone starting getting them. She didn't want to be a crowd follower and look like everyone else, and I don't blame her. But there will always be those who want to do what all their peers are doing, even if it means losing their individuality. I wouldn't want to be branded if I was a cow. Tattoos to me are humourously similar. [No offense meant to anyone here who might have a tattoo. To each his or her own...]

Count me in as another one who has always liked Tracy. I miss her when several shows go by without her on. The only time I found her hard to watch was when she was backstabbing Gail when they were both in jail. Outside of that I can't imagine the show without her! I think she especially plays off well with Steve (but I don't wish to see them get back together - I'd prefer to see Steve and Andrea together eventually so long as he doesn't cheat on Michelle!)

I'm with Haili, I do not find Peter attractive at all. More than a little slimey and completely untrustworthy. I never could see why Leanne stood by him for so long. However I find the actor who plays Peter excellent.

I haven't seen any Corrie yet this week but I'm really finding it amusing from the comments that I'm reading that Tracy is part of something that has added some fun to Corrie! Who would have thought? Personally I have always found Tracy to be funny and I think Kate Ford is a capable actress and does a fine job of portraying Tracy the way the directors obviously want her to! I know that most wouldn't agree with me on that one.

So funny the scenes with Amy, Steve and Tracy. Cute how Amy tricked them into dressing up. Steve hilarious. I agree that he looked like Willie Wonka.
Did feel for Roy when he walked back into his apartment.
Hoping for the end of the Gloria / Dennis plot. Never cared for Gloria. I like most of the trouble makers, David, Tracy, etc. Show would be boring without them but just something about Gloria.

SPOILER**

I enjoyed the trip to the museum last night. Amy, Tracy and Steve were fun and we really needed that for a change. The actress who plays Amy did a good job and it's good to have Roy back, if only to end Fizz's angst.

I don't find Peter attractive; he reminds me too much of my ex-husband. Peter is just a disaster waiting to happen but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Tattoos are creepy to me but some find them attractive.

Hasn't Todd already told Sean a couple of times he's not interested in him? What was the big deal about last night's chat, except to say he has a crush on someone else? Maybe he was getting him prepared for the time when he seduces Marcus; and it's only a matter of time IMO.

SPOILER ALERT
So glad Roy is back. So dumb of Steve to let him out of sight so he could get away again. I didn't hear them tell him about the leak fiasco, so don't know if he knows that yet. I noticed him see the red Anorak ( coat) Hayley used to wear hanging on the hook on the way into their suite. All these type of details matter to add to the story. wink

I liked tonight's show. Roy has just staggered into the street after a chance meeting with Steve and Tracy. Seemed uncomfortable with Anna, Fiz etc and very uncomfortable with going into the apartment and opening the box. Todd is almost obnoxious. Gloria is getting obnoxious and Tina continues to sink. I assume David and his associates will make a return soon. Seems more or less the same show from the '60's but I feel it has a little humour to make up.

Hi All!

I'm one of those who thinks Chris Gascoyne is gorgeous and always look forward to seeing Peter on screen, even if he's being a cad. He has those beautiful eyes and of course, wears a goatee really well. wink

For me though, it's the smoking that kinda puts me off.

I've seen pictures of Steve and Tracy at the museum and found what both were wearing quite amusing. Steve looked spiffy in that pimped out Victorian mess. lol But because I love his goofiness and sense of humour it did seem to suit him. Tracy looked equally ridiculous in that oversized dress.

I'm also willing to cut Fizz some slack. She is grieving and everyone experiences grief differently, but that doesn't mean others have to put up with her abuse, so to speak. Hopefully she'll realise she's being unfair and unreasonable and will smarten up.

I wouldn't classify Peter as a *hunk* exactly either. But I do think he's an attractive looking man. He has those smoldering dark eyes and long lashes, and he has a nice face. I think the trimmed facial hair suits him too. He definitely doesn't have the physique to put him in the *hunk* category! I guess as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we don't all find the same things/people attractive which is probably a good thing.

Pearl, thanks for your comment re P having T with D. Or not.
I wasn't thinking of Rob's connection to Carla. I wondered if Peter didn't want to be around him because of the kiss that he and Tina shared. And also possibly, because I think at one point Rob had sussed him (Peter) about his real feelings for Tina. Maybe?
